DOH-Bicol commends LGUs with high vaccination rates

LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol has commended the local government units (LGUs) with the highest performance rating during the recent National Vaccination Days drive against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The agency said in a statement on Sunday it registered a total of 635,459 vaccinated individuals during the "Bayanihan, Bakunahan" inoculation campaign from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1 as per the Vaccination Operations Reporting System (VORS).

DOH-Bicol cited the LGUs that reached more than 100 percent of their target as the city of Legazpi and the municipalities of Bagamanoc, Baras, Gigmoto, and Panganiban in Catanduanes; Cabusao, Camarines Sur; and Bulusan, Sorsogon.

However, the provincial numbers represent only 55 percent of the region’s target of 1.1 million for the national vaccination drive.

Catanduanes posted the highest achievement after vaccinating 92 percent of its target; followed by Camarines Sur, 61 percent; Albay, 56 percent; Sorsogon, 55 percent; Camarines Norte, 46 percent; and Masbate, 39 percent.

The latest Covid-19 update in Bicol showed cases are on the downtrend with 3,851 remaining active infections. The region's data show 46,695 cumulative cases from March 27 last year to Dec. 4 this year.

Meanwhile, DOH-Bicol also said 94 individuals who fell critically ill of Covid-19 died during the past seven days.

From Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, the number of mortalities ranged from 10 to 19 in a day with the top three recorded incidents on Nov. 29 with 19 deaths, followed by 15 last Dec. 1 and 14 on Dec. 4. (PNA)
