MANILA – The onslaught of Typhoon Odette in the south has prompted the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup to postpone Game 2 of the Mindanao Challenge finals between Kapatagan and Zamboanga Sibugay.

Supposed to take place on Thursday night at the Pagadian City Gymnasium, the match was called off at the last minute after a power outage.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been raised in Pagadian City as of the 5 p.m. bulletin by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.

"Canceled ang Game 2 tonight because of Typhoon Odette. Nagka-brownout dito sa gym, and yung generator ay gamit ng City Hall (Game 2 has been canceled tonight because of Typhoon Odette. There was a brownout here in the gym, and the City Hall is using the generator) for evacuation," league chief operating officer Chelito Caro said.

With the Luzon and Visayas-based players already booking their flights back home for Saturday, both the Buffalos and the Warriors agreed on holding a rare basketball day-night doubleheader on Friday to finish the best-of-three series assuming everything finally goes well amid the storm.

Game 2 is now scheduled for a 10 a.m. tip-off, and Game 3, if necessary, will happen at 8 p.m.

Zamboanga Sibugay defeated Kapatagan, 73-64, in the series opener which was finished way late into Wednesday night.

The Warriors can close out the series in the morning session. (PNA)
