MANILA – Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Senator Richard Gordon has reiterated that the need for blood never stops, as PRC continues to be at the forefront when responding to areas devastated by super typhoon Odette.
As the first responders in every disaster and emergency, the PRC has 1,540 volunteers on the ground right now distributing hot meals, food, and other relief items, providing psychosocial support, first aid, hygiene kits, as well as performing search and rescue operations.
"The Red Cross is unstoppable; despite the ongoing pandemic and our Odette operations, we will continue to be at the forefront of providing aid to the most vulnerable, especially during emergencies. But it doesn't end there, we will also continue with all our regular services as the need for blood never stops," Gordon said in a media release Tuesday.
The PRC also prepared its blood facilities even before the super typhoon made landfall.
According to the PRC Blood Services, it has sent a total of 220 units of blood supply to the following PRC Chapter blood service facilities; 155 units of blood to PRC Cebu, 50 units of blood to PRC Lapu-Lapu, and 15 units of blood to PRC Negros Oriental.
Meanwhile, PRC Palawan has now supplied eight government and private hospitals in the province, providing over 127 units of blood. (PR)
