DAVAO CITY - The tandem of presidential candidate, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and vice-presidential candidate Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, topped the online survey conducted by the University of Mindanao-Institute of Popular Opinion (UM-IPO).
In a statement sent to the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday, the UM-IPO here said the online survey was conducted from December 21 to 28, 2021 that involved Filipino social media users from different regions of the Philippines relative to their preference for the two highest positions in the country.
The survey is in connection with the upcoming May 9 elections this year.
Marcos was preferred by 44.61 percent of the respondents or five out of 10 adults, followed by Vice-President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, who was picked by 25.51 percent of the respondents.
Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso placed third, having garnered a 14.73 percent preference rating, while Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao got a 3.17 percent rating.
“The survey also intends to evaluate overall and per-island preference for these two top positions and to validate national survey results in the previous weeks,” UM-IPO said.
The survey also included further analysis of the possible bailiwicks which would contribute much to the overall preference of the presidential candidates.
When preference was categorized as to major islands, Marcos is the top presidential choice among voters from Luzon (42.29 percent) followed by Robredo (26.88 percent) and Domagoso (17.39 percent).
“The three candidates have strong bailiwicks in the Ilocandia, Bicol, and the National Capital Region/Manila area, respectively,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, as to the preferred vice-presidential candidate, Duterte was the top pick of 52.65 percent of respondents followed by Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan (26.54 percent), Dr. Willie Ong (11.13 percent), Senator Vicente III “Tito” Sotto (1.8 percent), and Congressman and former Manila Mayor Jose Sr. “Lito” Atienza (0.17 percent).
The UM-IPO said since the survey was done online as physical contact is still not allowed during the time of conduct of the survey, they have relied heavily on online and social media users who are targeted and identified via sponsored ads on two social media platforms of Meta (Facebook and Instagram).
Respondents were defined to be at least 18 years old, and are targeted for contact within the defined geographical radius in each of the major islands of the Philippines, and have valid/active email addresses.
Quality checks were also established to avoid possible online trolling, leaving a total of 1,199 respondents at a 95 percent confidence level and +/- three percent margin of error. (PNA)
