BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) has seized PHP37.039 million worth of suspected shabu in various operations in the past year, data released on Tuesday showed.

The prohibited substance totaled 5,447 grams pegged at PHP6,800 per gram, based on the value set by the Dangerous Drugs Board.

Lt. Abegael Donasco, the spokesperson of NOCPPO, said these were recovered by police stations across the province during the conduct of 638 operations.

During the period, the operatives arrested 821 suspects and filed 1,485 cases for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Donasco said most of the illegal drugs were seized in the northern part of the province while some of the supply of shabu comes from Metro Manila.

Police records show two drug groups, the Bugalon and the Virtusio groups, are now operating in Negros Occidental.

“We are monitoring these two groups. There were six groups before but the four were already neutralized,” Donasco said.

Meanwhile, in the campaign against loose firearms, the NOCPPO reported the arrest of 136 individuals in 131 operations during the entire year.

The police stations confiscated 163 firearms and received 163 surrendered and 178 deposited guns.

In illegal gambling, some 690 operations were conducted with 2,758 persons arrested and 2,742 cases filed. (PNA)
