MANILA – The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will explore possible collaboration on artificial intelligence (AI).

In a Viber message on Monday, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said the agency conducted its first foreign mission earlier this month, aimed at initiating cooperation in AI that would bolster and benefit both Filipino and Emirate stakeholders.

During the mission, the DOST presented “AI-NNOVATE: The Philippine Experience in Artificial Intelligence” at the Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP) and at the Philippine Bangkota in Dubai Expo.

"The delegation discussed the agency's AI priorities, programs, and the Philippine AI roadmap," he said.

De la Peña added that a DOST-assisted enterprise, Fish-I Analytics, also presented itself as a startup technology company that specializes in the use of AI solutions for environmental sustainability during the mission.

"The DOST and SRTIP are in coordination in convening a separate collaboration," De la Peña said.

He described the SRTIP as an innovation ecosystem that promotes research and development, and supports enterprise activities and collaboration of industry, government and academia.

DOST's delegation also met with UAE’s Ministry of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.

"The Philippine delegation and their counterpart exchanged views on their respective priorities and experiences in gearing up the government and the people for digital transformation. The two Ministries agreed to continue working together through a possible forging of a memorandum of understanding (MOU)," he said.

De la Peña cited that the Philippine Embassy in the UAE, the Philippine Partnership Circle, and the DOST Office of the Assistant Secretary for International Cooperation, have played crucial roles in the realization and success of the mission. (PNA)
