LEGAZPI CITY – At least 40 senior citizens who have reached the age of 90, 95, and 100 are listed as recipients of cash assistance from the local government unit (LGU) of Ligao City.
Irene B. Rancho, Ligao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) chief, in a message sent to the Philippine News Agency on Monday, said PHP25,000 will be given to the elderlies on their birthday.
"Among the 40 elderlies, 38 are nonagenarians who are reaching the age of 90 and 95, and two centenarians are also expected to receive the same amount of cash incentive this year,” Rancho said.
The first centenarian who was able to receive his cash incentive last January was Joaquin Cedro, from Barangay Amtic.
Rancho said this program is part of the Centenarians and Nonagenarians Cash Incentive Ordinance No. 2021-024 signed by City Mayor Patty-Gonzales-Alsua, which aims to help senior citizens aged 90, 95 and 100 years old sustain their basic needs.
"The Ligao City allotted PHP1 million to support the said program," she added.
To avail of the cash incentive, qualified senior citizens must submit documents such as a certified true copy of a birth certificate, photocopy of senior citizen's identification card (ID), and barangay certificate of residency to the CSWDO.
“Claim for cash incentive shall be filed before the CSWDO and shall be filled a month before their birthday,” Rancho said.
She reminded the qualified and approved beneficiaries to claim their cash incentive within three months, or it will be forfeited in favor of the city government.
Submitted documents of senior citizens who wish to avail of the said cash incentive are currently undergoing the verification process. (With a report from Eliakim Neric/PNA-OJT)
