COTABATO CITY – A police major and two civilians were injured in a shooting incident that transpired in a densely populated commercial district here on Tuesday night.

Maj. Elexon Bona, city police station 2 commander, was slightly injured when the gunmen, armed with assault rifles, opened fire at police officers responding to a shooting incident in Barangay Rosary Heights 9.

Reports said the shootout, which happened past 10 p.m. and involved civilians, was triggered by the non-payment of a PHP15,000 cash bet for a Mobile Legends online game.

“We are still verifying that report, that is not confirmed yet,” Bona told reporters here Wednesday.

Police said the two assailants riding on a motorbike arrived and opened fire on victims Hubert Concepcion and Fitzgerald Patagan, who got wounded and are now recuperating in a hospital.

The series of gun bursts sent residents into panic.

At least 20 persons were held for questioning and later released. (PNA)
