DUMAGUETE CITY – The provincial government of Negros Oriental has vaccinated more than half of its total target population against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, in a virtual presser on Thursday said as of February 24, the province has a total of 526,554 fully-vaccinated individuals, including those who received the one-shot Janssen vaccine.

This represents 53.1 percent of 990,637 individuals targeted for vaccination in the province.

Those who received the first dose totaled 539,850.

Meanwhile, the "Resbakuna Kids" rollout in the province netted 2,212 children aged 5-11 from across the province, Estacion said.

So far, no side effects were reported among this age group, she added.

Estacion called on the parents to respect the wishes of their children who want to receive the vaccine against Covid-19.

The vaccination of the pediatrics sector in Negros Oriental started last February 18 in all the local government units and the provincial mega vaccination center at the Macias Sports Center here.

Meanwhile, officials from the Department of Health in Region 7 (DOH-7) visited Negros Oriental on Wednesday to inspect the vaccination rollout and facilities of the provincial government, such as vaccine storage.

“We were congratulated by the DOH-7 on our vaccination rollout for being cooperative and following the guidelines set by the national government on the inoculation of our constituents against Covid-19,” she said.

Estacion reiterated her call to the people to get vaccinated, saying the province has plenty of available vaccines.

As of February 23, the province has received 1,104,216 vaccines of various brands, some of which were sent directly to the LGUs. (PNA)
