MANILA – Air Force Maj. Gen. Rene S. Diaz, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) deputy chief of staff for logistics or OJ-4, formally retired from the service on Thursday after more than 34 years in service.
In a statement Friday, the AFP honored Diaz's role in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure and facilities that improved the living conditions of troops stationed in remote detachments and stations in the West Philippine Sea.
He likewise oversaw the completion of 13 major defense procurements under the AFP Modernization Program.
This included the 16 S-70i "Black Hawk" combat utility helicopters, 12 155mm self-propelled howitzers, and 15 armored mortar carriers.
AFP deputy chief-of-staff Vice Admiral Rommel Anthony Reyes, who presided during the joint retirement and turnover ceremony held at the Tejeros Hall, Commissioned Officers Club in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, said these accomplishments are a reflection of Diaz's expertise and dedication.
“These accomplishments, among many others, are clear reflections of Major General Diaz’s expertise in the field of logistics, remarkable work ethics, and genuine heart for public service. He has certainly assisted the AFP leadership in optimizing our resources and in sustaining the needs of our units and personnel,” he added.
Replacing Diaz as AFP deputy chief-of-staff for logistics is Air Force Maj. Gen. Fernyl G. Buca.
Buca served as the acting deputy chief-of-staff for logistics (AJ-4) from March 2019 to May 2020.
He also served as commander of the Air Education, Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Air Force.
“I am confident that Maj. Gen. Buca will sustain or even improve further the gains of the OJ-4 and to continue formulating more initiatives in furtherance of the AFP’s modern and more responsive joint logistics and support system,” Reyes said. (PNA)
