MANILA – Filipino bishops will join the consecration of Pope Francis of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary next week.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website reported on Friday that Msgr. Bernardo Pantin, the conference secretary-general, said the bishops have agreed to consecrate in their respective dioceses on the same day.

He added that the decision was reached during the meeting of the Permanent Council of the Conference on Wednesday.

The Holy Father will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on March 25.

It will be held during a penitential celebration in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Collections to help alleviate the suffering of people of Ukraine will also be initiated by Catholic churches throughout the Philippines on March 20.

The CBCP asked dioceses that a special collection be taken up at all Masses on Sunday to support those displaced by the war. (PNA)
