TACLOBAN CITY – The congressional representative of Samar province welcomed on Tuesday the resumption of the Cebu-Calbayog flights of Cebu Pacific airlines after two years of pandemic hiatus.

Samar First District Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento said the return of flights to Calbayog City will boost their local tourism industry.

“Today, we welcome back Cebu Pacific Air to the Great City of Waterfalls and The Gateway of Samar! I congratulate Cebu Pacific Air on its 26th anniversary. I thank them for staying true to their commitment to make everyone fly. I am very grateful that they have heard and accepted my appeal to reinstate the Cebu - Calbayog route starting this March 29th, 2022 for twice-weekly flights (Tuesdays and Saturdays),” Sarmiento said on his social media post.

The congressman believes the resumption of flights will help the people of Samar and gives hope that the local economy will be able to bounce back stronger and better after a “very difficult” two years.

“We hope that this convenient link to the queen city of the south begins to spur more progress and needed tourism in our beloved Samar,” Sarmiento added.

It was on March 7 when Cebu Pacific announced that it is ramping up its domestic network by adding more flights to key hubs, following the continuous easing of travel for Filipinos and foreign tourists alike.

The airline operates the widest domestic network in the Philippines covering 34 destinations, on top of its 17 international destinations. (PNA)
