TACLOBAN CITY – Former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) chairperson Greco Belgica has vowed to push for the sustainability of President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug war in the next administration if he wins the Senate race.

The senatorial aspirant on Tuesday expressed concern that no current presidential and vice-presidential candidate has made pronouncements to make the anti-drug war a priority.

“My fear is that drug traders will resume their illegal activity after the President’s term. Recently, the government has been recovering billions worth of illegal drugs from operations. It is an indication that they are returning,” Belgica told reporters during a sortie here.

Aside from anti-corruption, he said he will make the drug war and peace and order a priority for the country to attain economic recovery.

“We need a leader who will give confidence to our law enforcement. We will support them 100 percent in the performance of their duty. We cannot talk about economic recovery if there’s no peace and order,” Belgica added.

During the President’s Chatroom aired on state-run PTV-4 on the night of April 9, Duterte expressed hope that the Filipino electorate would vote for Belgica who earned praises for his performance and anti-corruption initiatives during his stint at the PACC.

Duterte said he is confident that Belgica will be able to fulfill his promise to push for legislative measures that will benefit the country.

Duterte also promised to campaign for Belgica who is one of the “Lucky 7” senatorial candidates of the Chief Executive’s ruling party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

A native of Manila, Belgica served as Commissioner of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) from January 2018 to March 2021. (PNA)
