LAOAG CITY – Personnel of the Philippine National Police here have been deployed in various polling places ahead of the May 9 national and local elections on Monday.
Laoag City police chief Joemar Q. Labiano confirmed this on Wednesday as he ordered his men to be at election precincts before 7 a.m. on Tuesday or prior to the turnover of vote counting machines (VCMs) that they will watch over until election day.
Generator sets were also tested in polling places to ensure they are working properly in case of a power interruption during the election period.
From the provincial i-Hub in Barangay Callaguip, Batac City, several PNP personnel escorted the transfer of sealed VCMs to the different polling places in the province. Priority in the distribution of VCMs is in remote areas.
"The final testing and sealing of VCMs are set on May 6, at least two days before the election period,” provincial election supervisor Joel Gines said.
“In case there will be glitches, we still have enough time to replace the defective VCM,” he added.
Some 800 boxes containing official ballots arrived earlier at the Ilocos Norte Capitol. The ballots are now under the custody of the treasurer’s office of the different local government units.
Ilocos Norte is composed of two districts with a total of 430,000 registered voters, according to the Commission on Elections. (PNA)
