DAVAO CITY – Dabawenyos working abroad can now feel at ease with the newly-opened Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Families Welfare and Crisis Center that would look after the rights of the families they left behind.

Lawyer Marlisa Gallo, city social welfare and development office (CSWDO) chief, said in a radio interview Wednesday that apart from addressing the workers' rights, the newly-established center also covers protection and assistance for their families.

"The concerns of the OFWs and their families are quite different, and we thought it is only proper to create this center that will solely attend to them," Gallo said.

Currently, the center is profiling OFWs based on records obtained from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The newly-opened center aims to offer services such as financial assistance, livelihood assistance, rescue, and psychosocial intervention depending on the assessed needs of the concerned families.

Gallo said the center's creation is an offshoot of a city ordinance that mandated the protection of rights, interests, welfare, and development of the families of the Dabawenyos who left abroad for work.

The OFW center can be reached through their official mobile and landline numbers and also their e-mail address: [email protected].

The public can also drop their messages on their official Facebook Page: OFW Families' Welfare and Crisis Center Davao City. (PNA)
