LEGAZPI CITY – Due to anticipated heavy traffic on major city roads, the local government units (LGUs) of Naga City in Camarines Sur and Legazpi City in Albay on Thursday suspended work and classes on Friday.
In an advisory, Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal said all classes in the elementary and high school levels, whether modular or face-to-face, and in both public and private institutions, as well as government work, are suspended.
"The City Disaster and Climate Change Resilience Council declared the suspension due to the anticipated heavy traffic which might be caused by a large public rally scheduled on May 6, 2022," he said.
Rosal added, however, that the suspension will not apply to those who are in the Incident Management Team, maintenance of peace and order, disaster risk management, health and sanitation, and performance of vital services.
He also said suspension of work in private offices is left to the discretion of their respective management.
Meanwhile, Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion said the suspension order is aimed at ensuring public order, safety, and convenience and to reduce traffic congestion and traffic-related emergencies during the event.
The public rallies organized by Solid Leni Bicol, dubbed "One People's March" are expected to be attended by some 300,000 individuals from various localities of the Bicol region.
The Legazpi rally is set for 1 p.m., while the Naga event is scheduled in the evening. (PNA)
