DAVAO CITY – Monday's elections here have been generally peaceful, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said Tuesday.

Major Ma. Teresita Gaspan, the DCPO spokesperson, attributed the success to the maximum deployment of police personnel on the ground to secure Dabawenyos as they head to the polling centers.

“No untoward incidents were reported,” Gaspan said in an interview, even as she cited the contribution of other security forces and government agencies.

“[It was made possible] with the support of all our allied forces and counterparts from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Elections (Comelec), and other government agencies,” she said.

DCPO earlier deployed 80 percent of its field personnel to various polling precincts that require additional security. Police personnel were assigned to polling precincts, security of the voting counting machines (VCM), rapid deployment force, and traffic management.

DCPO assigned two personnel per polling precinct while an additional deployment of four to six personnel was assigned in the 1,211 clustered precincts.

Meanwhile, Gaspan said 12 persons were apprehended for liquor ban violations on election day.

“No other violations were recorded,” she said.

Elsewhere in Davao Region, police apprehended at least 27 individuals for the violation of the liquor ban and one was arrested for defying the election gun ban.

"With the full cooperation and participation of PRO-11 personnel, including the allied peacekeeping and law enforcement agencies, the Commission on Elections, the conduct of national and local elections here has been successful and peaceful," Brigadier Gen. Benjamin Silo Jr., Police Regional Office-11 chief, said.

Silo expressed his gratitude to police authorities for securing the polls. (PNA)
