ILOILO CITY – Residents within the selected franchise areas of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) and Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) are advised to get ready for water rationing in anticipation of the “low pressure to no water starting May 16 until further notice”.
The water service interruption is due to the expiration of the Bulk Water Supply Agreement (BWSA) between Flo Water Resources (Iloilo) Inc. and the joint venture partners of the MIWD.
Flo Water has already given the water utility supplier a notice that it will “cease” to deliver bulk water effective 11:59 p.m. of May 15.
MIWD OIC general manager Amarylis Josephine Castro, in an interview on Thursday, said that the Flo Water supplies around 36 to 37 percent water requirement of their franchise areas.
She added that they have been trying to negotiate with the supplier since early this year but the latter will not budge on the price offering, which is PHP25 from PHP17.25 per liter.
“Rest assured that the negotiation is still open but we have to let the public know because they need to prepare for the coming event,” Castro said.
Among those that will experience low pressure to no water are customers from municipalities of Leganes, barangays Pagsanga-an and Anilao in Pavia, and some parts of Sta. Barbara in Iloilo province and Jaro, La Paz, and Lapuz districts in Iloilo City consists of 19,000 households or around 30 percent of their consumers.
Castro said that they have 11 tankers that will deliver to areas with no water while 87 static tanks are also spread in various barangays that will be used during the implementation of the 12-hour interval rotational water supply interruption from 3 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“We are banking on the rainy season this time and the public is encouraged to conserve water,” she said.
Castro also urged the public to practice rainwater harvesting this rainy season to augment their supply. (PNA)
