P3-M worth of ketamine seized from Taiwanese national

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Anti-drug authorities in Makati City seized on Tuesday some PHP3 million worth of ketamine from a Taiwanese national in a controlled delivery operation.   
 
A report of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Luzon (PDEA-3) identified the suspect as Chang Bin Yen, 33, and a resident of Tainan, Taiwan.
 
The package containing ketamine was declared as an air purifier, and arrived at the Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark last May 12.
 
"Ketamine is a dangerous drug classified as a hallucinogenic drug. It can sedate, incapacitate, and cause short-term memory loss, and because of this, some people use it as a date-rape drug,” the PDEA-3 said in its report.
 
Confiscated during the operation were two boxes concealed therein six pieces of stainless steel water purifier containing 600 grams of ketamine.
 
The controlled delivery operation was jointly conducted by PDEA-Central Luzon, Bureau of Customs- Port of Clark, Southern Police District, and Makati City Police.
 
A case for violation of section 4 on importation of dangerous drugs of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, is being readied for filing in court against the Taiwanese national. (PNA)
