Zambo City logs over 2K dengue cases, 19 deaths

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 2,026 dengue cases with 19 mortalities have been recorded since January 1 until May 19,  the City Health Office (CH) said.

In a report, the CHO said the current number of dengue cases from January 1 to May 18 is 1,793 percent higher compared to the same period in 2021.

Of the total number of dengue cases, 1,018 or 50 percent are females six months to 88 years old.

The same CHO data showed that 1,030 (51 percent) of the affected age group were zero to nine years old, followed by the 10 to 19 age group with 624 (31 percent) cases.

The CHO said 1,460 of the total cases recorded had dengue with symptoms, of which six have died.

It said two died of the 507 who had dengue with no symptoms.

The top ten barangays with high cases of dengue are Sta. Maria; Tetuan; Pasonanca; San Roque; Mercedes; Putik; Tumaga; Calarian; Cabatangan; and, Guiwan.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. The primary vectors that transmit the disease are Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. (PNA)
