BAGUIO CITY – The city government has reported that almost 50 percent of the eligible population in this mountain resort city have received their coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) booster shots, as the elderly population also started getting their second booster jab.

Data provided on Friday by Baguio public information office chief, Aileen Refuerzo, showed that 43.05 percent of the city’s 281,000 target eligible adult population have received the first booster shot, as of May 16.

The figure includes the 243 who got vaccinated with their booster jab on the said day.

Data also showed at least 96 have already received the second booster vaccine on that day.

The city government continues to give vaccination services to the residents, interested tourists, and residents from nearby communities at the different vaccination sites, including some of the major drugstores in the central business district, she said.

The data showed that a total of 294,971 individuals have already received their first dose; and 282,261 of them have completed the doses.

The city government’s record also shows 95.88 percent of the 12 to 17 age group have received the first dose and 92.66 percent have been fully vaccinated.

For the five to 11 years old, at least 60.18 percent have received the first jab, while 50.21 percent have received the complete dose.

Meanwhile, assistant city health officer Celia Flor Brillantes on Friday clarified that the second booster shot is only limited to health workers and senior citizens.

Brillantes had earlier said that the city government does not only give vaccines at the different district health centers covering the 128 villages, but also through mobile vaccination teams that cater to the immobilized patients and the senior citizens.

“Let us get the vaccine for an added protection against the virus. Covid-19 still exists and we are still in a pandemic and a surge is still possible if we do not take care of ourselves,” Brillantes said. (PNA)
