BAGUIO CITY – The police here said they have been coordinating with security agencies to continue to heighten surveillance and monitoring to assure the public's safety.
“We are not putting our guards down. We continue to coordinate with the stakeholders like security agencies and their security guards to be alert,” Col. Glenn Lonogan, director of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), said in a phone interview Wednesday.
He said heightened security inspection at malls, especially at the biggest mall in the city where locals especially tourists converge, is done to avert bombings similar to those in Mindanao.
He added that the BCPO has set up a police assistant tent at the Victory Liner bus terminal that caters to a huge number of travelers to the city.
"There is no reason to be alarmed even with the incidents of a bomb explosion in Mindanao because the local people are on guard, including the other stakeholders," Lonogan said.
He said the law enforcement intelligence community has not monitored any movement of terrorist groups in the locality.
Meanwhile, Capt. Marnie Abellanida, Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCor) information officer, said the law enforcers are still on heightened alert with the recent elections and the "Oplan Summer Vacation".
He said the regional office has instructed the explosives and canine units to continue paneling and monitoring vital installations. (PNA)
