COTABATO CITY – To give voices to four major sectors in the city, Mayor-elect Mohammad Bruce Matabalao said he will name four deputy mayors once he assumed as the city chief executive on July 1.

In an interview Wednesday, Matabalao said the appointment of deputy mayors will give residents more opportunity to be heard on issues affecting them.

“They will take charge of the issues of four major sectoral groups of Muslims, Christians, Chinese and Indigenous Peoples,” said Matabalao, who ran under the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP).

During the campaign period for this year’s national and local elections, the mayor-elect said he learned that these four sectors wanted to be represented well in local governance.

“That is why it was my election promise that I will be serving all Cotabatenios,” he said.

He said the four sectoral deputy mayors will also form part of the "council of leaders," who will serve as his advisers in running the affairs of the local government.

“They will be publicly named once I start my administration,” he said when asked who the four deputies would be.

Matabalao also offered reconciliation to all political aspirants in this year’s election. (PNA)
