DAVAO CITY – The city government issued a warning anew to those who remain unvaccinated, citing three recent deaths from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) involved individuals who chose not to get the jabs.

Data from the City's Covid-19 Task Force showed the deaths occurred from May 22 to 28.

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the task force's spokesperson, said two of them were senior citizens and the third was an adult.

"They all suffered from the severe type of Covid-19 and, since they were unvaccinated, they were not protected from the severity of the disease," Schlosser said over the Davao City Disaster Radio on Thursday.

With the city put under a more relaxed alert level, she said an added layer of protection is highly necessary as more people are now outdoors and at the threat of being exposed to the virus.

"After six months, the protection from the vaccine wanes so the booster jabs are also highly recommended. To those who did not even avail of any vaccination from Covid-19, the level of protection is zero," she said.

Demonstrating the effectiveness of the vaccines, Schlosser noted senior citizens with a severe type of Covid-19 managed to survive as they were fully vaccinated and received booster doses.

As of May 22, the city’s first-dose vaccinees reached 1,333,259 while second-dose vaccinees numbered 1,315,112 as of May 27.

Of the fully vaccinated population, however, the city only logged 262,490 who received first booster shots while 12,891 have obtained second booster jabs. (PNA)
