MANILA – Maj. Jan Michael Guillermo, a veteran Filipino-American combat helicopter pilot who had tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, has retired after 20 years in the United States (US) Army.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency on Sunday, his father, Lucky Guillermo, said he attended the retirement ceremony of his 42-year-old son at Sparkman Center Redstone Arsenal in Alabama on May 11.

Brig. Gen. Rob Barrie, program executive for aviation, presented a plaque of recognition to Guillermo for his two-decade service.

After Iraq and Afghanistan war, the younger Guillermo, an Apache helicopter pilot, was pulled out to supervise the final air operations of bringing out US assets and evacuating Americans out of Kabul.

His father said Guillermo plans to continue serving the US government as consultant in US Army aviation matters. (PNA)
