MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now inspecting national roads and bridges affected by Sunday's eruption of the Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon.

In an advisory Monday, DPWH Acting Secretary Roger Mercado said all national roads are passable despite the volcanic eruption.

Meanwhile, DPWH-5 (Bicol) director Virgilio Eduarte said they have installed warning signs along intermittent portions of Daang Maharlika that were affected by the ash falls in the towns of Juban, and Casiguran.

“Slow Down signs have been placed on affected highways so that motorists are guided while we also conduct an assessment of any damage to our national roads and bridges,” Eduarte said in a statement.

He added that they continue to monitor and assess the areas affected by the current condition of the volcano.

“To date, there has been no reported damage on our roads and bridges but we will continue to assess and monitor the situation since the alert status of Mt. Bulusan has been raised to Alert Level 1 which means it is currently in an abnormal unstable condition,” Eduarte added.

On Sunday, the volcano spewed steam-rich gray plumes and ash in a phreatic eruption, prompting the evacuation of residents in Juban town and neighboring areas. (PNA)
