LAOAG CITY – A new two-story public market is expected to bring more life to its vendors and buyers as it is expected to rise along the newly-constructed bypass road in Barangay 12 Puyupuyan, Pasuquin town.

Funded by the Development Bank of the Philippines for PHP132 million, the new market aims to provide a more comfortable space for vendors and buyers and decongest traffic in the old site occupying a whole block at the southeast end of the former town plaza.

On Monday, town officials led by Mayor Ferdinand Aguinaldo led a simple groundbreaking ceremony of the new public market. “This year is indeed a fruitful year to us Pasuquiños because we embarked on another auspicious event that unfolds a new gigantic project which will soon rise,” said the mayor during the laying of the time capsule.

The project is one of the town’s biggest projects this year and it is expected to be completed in 889 calendar days.

The public market will also include an outdoor area with stalls for street food vendors, adequate parking space, roadways, and landscaping.

For residents, the construction of a bigger public market in the coastal town of Pasuquin is a welcome development as they will no longer need to travel far to buy their daily needs.

With its accessibility along the national highway and more spaces for parking, the new public market will likewise encourage tourists to drop by and try Pasuquin’s unique products such as garlic, onions, salt, biscocho, and freshly caught tuna from the local fish port.

“We are excited to have the new public market which will address the need of our town to have a clean and orderly marketplace for everyone to enjoy,” said Mildred Dacuycuy of Poblacion village. (PNA)
