BUTUAN CITY – Government forces nabbed a New People’s Army (NPA) rebel involved in the attack of Army troopers seven years ago, the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) said Wednesday.

Maj. Dorothy Tumulak, PRO-13 information officer, identified the suspect as Jossinael Rosa Intano, 59, of Lianga municipality, Surigao del Sur.

“Intano was arrested by the joint operatives from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, the 3rd Special Forces Battalion of the Army, and the local police of Lianga on Monday (June 6),” Tumulak said in an interview.

Intano was arrested in his house by virtue of an arrest warrant for multiple attempted murder issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 7 in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, she said.

Intano is listed as a “priority target” of PRO-13.

Tumulak said the suspect is identified as among the NPA rebels who attacked and ambushed the troops of the Philippine Army in November 2015 in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur.

The Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

The National Democratic Front has been formally designated as a terrorist organization by the Anti-Terrorism Council on June 23, 2021, citing it as “an integral and inseparable part” of the CPP-NPA created in April 1973. (PNA)
