MANILA – The southbound portion of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa) – Timog Flyover has been closed on Friday as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) begins “immediate repairs.”

In a traffic advisory, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said DPWH inspectors closed two lanes of the flyover “to ensure the safety of the motorists after they found large potholes and cracks on its portion on Thursday night.

“Repair works involve the replacement of flyover's deck slab, based on initial assessment,” it added.

To date, it said only one lane of the flyover is open to traffic and is only for the exclusive use of public utility buses.

“Slow-moving traffic has been monitored in the area,” it said.

In a radio interview, Charlie Nozares from the MMDA Metrobase recommended that motorists coming from Quezon City and Quezon Avenue turn right at Delta, and turn left going to Timog, Morato, and E. Rodriguez.

He also suggested motorists go through C-5 Katipunan and those in the Araneta area use the Skyway.

Other alternate routes include the service road or Scout Borromeo Street, Eugenio Lopez Drive, and other Mabuhay lanes. (PNA)
