MANILA – The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has 15 train cars left to overhaul as part of its rehabilitation efforts.

The number of its overhauled trains increased to 57. These train cars, as part of the overhaul, are fixed and fitted with new parts to restore their condition, the MRT-3 said in a Facebook post Friday.

"Dumaraan din sa serye ng mga speed at quality checks ang mga bagong overhaul na bagon, upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga ito (These newly overhauled train cars also go through a series of speed and quality checks to ensure their safety," it said.

Having more operational train cars increases the rail line's passenger capacity -- with the MRT-3 now serving up to 380,000 passengers per day.

Since the completion of the MRT-3's comprehensive rehabilitation in December last year, the MRT-3 operates an average of 18 to 22 train sets at any given time, composed mostly of three-car trains and some four-car trains.

Since March, the MRT-3 has been offering free rides at all of its stations until June 30. (PNA)
