LAOAG CITY – The number of dengue cases here has gone down to 48 cases during the first six months of the year from 105 cases during the same period in 2021.
"But this should not make the people complacent,” said Imelda Jacinto, dengue nurse coordinator of the City Health Office, on Wednesday as she reminded the public to continue practicing the "4S" strategy especially during this rainy season.
These include searching and destroying breeding places, securing self-protection, seeking early consultation, and supporting fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.
Residents here are also reminded to observe the "4 o’clock habit" of cleaning up possible mosquito breeding sites. Village officials are also actively engaged in cleanup drives.
Meanwhile, health workers in various parts of the province continued to conduct dengue awareness campaign at the hospital and in local communities to prevent the rise in dengue cases.
For better coordination, the city government has also established dengue emergency hotlines for residents to call. The landline numbers are as follows: 770-5228 (City Health Office); 773-1992 (Community Affairs Division); and 772-8826 (638) (Laoag City General Hospital). (PNA)
