MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday it is monitoring three weather disturbances.
The first is a low-pressure area (LPA) spotted at 10 p.m. Tuesday and was last tracked at 235 km. west-northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
"It has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, and likely to dissipate in the next days," weather forecaster Grace Castañeda said, adding that this LPA will cause rains in the western section of northern Luzon.
Another LPA was spotted at 8 p.m. Tuesday and was last seen at 845 km. east of Itbayat, Batanes.
This also has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours but Castañeda said it was moving towards the landmass and may enhance the southwest monsoon in the next few days.
A tropical depression 2,265 km. outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is also being monitored.
"It is slowly moving and is not expected to enter PAR, but we continue to monitor this due to the possibility of a change in its track," she said.
For Wednesday's forecast, the LPA is seen to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Ilocos region, Zambales, and Bataan.
The same weather condition is forecast over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
Flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to at times heavy rains.
The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail over the entire archipelago. (PNA)
