BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Cultural Foundation, Inc. (NCFI) launched here Thursday various competitions under the project, “Pagsaulog: A Celebration of Negrense Culture”, in partnership with the Negros Occidental provincial government.
Among those lined up for this year are the Sine Negrense: Negros Island Film Festival, the "Cinco de Noviembre" short play competition, and the inter-local government unit (LGU) mural competition.
The “Pagsaulog: A Celebration of Negrense Culture” is an integrated cultural development program aimed at benefiting the province of Negros Occidental and the Negrense community through activities that provide a venue for artistic expression; cultural promotion and appreciation; and wellness and recovery using the arts.
The initiative is also a response to the challenge of the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Seal of Good Local Governance program that encourages provincial, city, and municipal governments to promote and conserve cultural heritage.
NCFI president Lyn Gamboa said the foundation is most grateful to the province, led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, for supporting the programs of the NCFI and The Negros Museum through financial assistance.
“As we officially launch the 'Pagsaulog', we will remain committed to carrying out initiatives dedicated to preserving the rich culture, arts, and heritage of Negros,” Gamboa said during a press conference held at The Negros Museum in this city.
Provincial tourism officer Cheryl Decena lauded the NCFI for coming up with activities that highlight Negros Occidental’s rich culture and art heritage and unite every sector in promoting the Negrense cultural identity.
This 2022, the Sine Negrense aims to develop films, artists, and audiences and promote regional films on the national and international stage.
This year’s film competition, themed “Negros New Wave – Resurgence”, includes the school and open categories, and is open to all Negrosanons born and/or currently residing on Negros Island.
The "Cinco de Noviembre" short play competition aims to let the youth learn more about the history and culture of Negros Occidental by enabling them to mount their dramatic concepts and original performances based on their take or interpretation of the actual historical events that significantly happened in Negros Occidental.
The mechanics of the inter-LGU mural competition are being finalized and will be announced later. (PNA)
