KORONADAL CITY – Families of victims of the Aug. 4 vehicular crash that killed 10 people in General Santos City have received financial assistance from the local government.

General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao led the distribution Monday of PHP5,000 financial aid from the city social welfare office to families of all injured victims to help in their hospital expenses.

The fatalities’ relatives also received PHP15,000 from the city government for funeral expenses.

"As the mother of this city, I promised to provide you whatever help the city government can,” Pacquiao said.

The victims died following a three-vehicle smash-up in Barangay Batomelong, General Santos City.

Involved in the accident were a passenger van, a 10-wheeler wing van cargo truck, and a pick-up truck.

The General Santos City Traffic unit said the rear tire of the passenger van exploded causing  the driver to lose control of its steering wheel and then collided with an oncoming cargo truck. (PNA)
