Northern Luzon quake infra damage nears P2 billion

MANILA – The July 27 magnitude 7 earthquake that jolted Abra and neighboring Northern Luzon provinces has so far left PHP1.99 billion worth of infrastructure damage, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) bared Thursday.

In its latest situation report, the agency said the damage was incurred in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The tremor has also left some PHP48.2 million worth of damage to agricultural infrastructure, facilities, equipment, and machinery in the Cordillera.

The earthquake's damage to irrigation systems in the Ilocos Region and Cordillera has reached PHP22.7 million.

Houses damaged by the earthquake have also climbed to 35,958 in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, CAR, and the National Capital Region -- 35,265 of which were partially damaged while 693 were totally damaged.

Affected families have reached 146,363 or equivalent to 533,651 persons residing in 1,343 barangays in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and CAR.

Around 277 families or 873 persons are still staying in nine evacuation centers. (PNA)
