MANILA – Authorities arrested a communist rebel who is also the second most wanted person (MWP) in the province of Bohol, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Azurin identified the suspect as John Carlo Paanod alias "Archi/Atom", a medic of the Bohol Party Committee Komiteng Rehiyon Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor (KR-NCBS) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

Paanod was arrested by joint operatives of the Bohol Police Provincial Office and the Philippine Army's 47th Infantry Battalion in Barangay San Roque, Sagbayan, Bohol at around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The suspect has warrants of arrest for murder and frustrated murder issued by the Carmen, Bohol Regional Trial Court Branch 51.

“The arrest of most wanted personalities is a product of effective intelligence strategy applied by our operatives along with positive response and cooperation of our community in support to our relentless campaign against criminals wanted by law," Azurin said.

Paanod is now under the custody of Sagbayan police for documentation and proper disposition. (PNA)
