DAVAO CITY –The Bureau of Customs in Davao (BOC-Davao) has managed to collect PHP3.8 billion worth of revenues in August this year, exceeding its target by at least PHP610 million.

Lawyer Erastus Sandino Austria, BOC-Davao collector, noted Friday that its PHP3.8 billion collection is 18.95 percent higher than its assigned target of PHP3.2 billion last month.

"This achievement was made possible through the strengthened collaboration and dialogues between its employees and stakeholders who continue to transact at the port," Austria said.

He commended the performance of Collection District 12 for its "untiring excellent service, as well as the port’s stakeholders for their trust and support for the agency’s reforms and programs."

Earlier, the BOC-Davao met with various heads and representatives of shipping line companies to iron out issues on the return of containers and other concerns relating to cargo release and container dwelling time of abandoned goods.

Austria also discussed with participants the abandonment procedures of their office, and the auction and cargo disposal process where most of the containers remain at the various seaports due to lapsed entries for failure to file, pay, and claim goods.

"BOC-Davao continues to expedite the clearance of these goods through various modes of disposal and speed up the return of containers to various companies," he said.

According to Austria, BOC-Davao envisions to become the country's premier logistics hub to spur economic growth in Davao Region, and help decongest some of the major ports in Luzon. (PNA)\
