ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Army’s 100th Infantry Battalion (IB) has tapped the assistance of civilians in the fight against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), including in the maintenance of law and order within Sulu province.

In a statement Friday, the 100IB said it has conducted a Sept 1- 2 training for 60 members of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) from the villages of Buanza, Kajatian, and Tagbak in Indanan town.

The 100IB headed by Lt. Col. Michael Cuenca said the training will enhance the BPATs understanding and knowledge of the criminal justice system, civilian arrest, and crime prevention.

The BPAT members received lectures on gun safety, firearm assembly and disassembly, and anti-terrorism and coordination.

Personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Indanan also demonstrated basic first aid and disaster preparedness techniques to the participants.

The government organized the BPAT to help address concerns about peace, order, and safety at the grassroots level, specifically in the villages.

The 100IB is one of the units of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade under the 11th Infantry Division activated to fight against the Daesh-inspired ASG in Sulu. (PNA)
