ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) began Friday the construction of the PHP361-million flyover project at the intersection of Governor Camins and Veterans Avenues here.

DPWH and city government officials led the project’s groundbreaking ceremony signaling the start of the construction of the first-ever flyover project in this city.

DPWH said the project, situated in front of the Sta. Cruz Commercial Complex, will be constructed in two parallel phases.

The first phase involves the assembly of the flyover and right-of-way acquisition within 504 days amounting to PHP233 million, while the second includes the construction of the structure’s approaches costing PHP128 million within 360 days.

Mayor John Dalipe described the project as a welcome development that would help solve the traffic problem on the eastern side of this city.

“We are very happy, the city government is happy that the first-ever flyover project will push through,” Dalipe said in an interview.

Dalipe thanked former 2nd district representative Celso Lobregat for paving the way for the project and its inclusion in the national budget.

Lobregat started sourcing funds for the two projects way back in 2015, with the budget approved in 2018.

“I am happy the project that will provide a solution to the traffic problem here is underway,” he said. (PNA)
