Aurora incurs over P182-M loss in agri, infra due to ’Karding’

BALER, Aurora – Damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding in this province has initially reached over PHP182 million, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said on Tuesday.

Elson Egargue, PDRRMO chief, said in an interview the agricultural sector incurred some PHP130.28 million in damage while the infrastructure suffered some PHP52.25-million damage.

He said the damage to rice, corn, high-value crops and fisheries was reported by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist based on information that came from eight municipalities.

He said the most damaged commodity was rice, with the total amount reaching some PHP57, 885,667; followed by high-value crops amounting to PHP36,395,834; corn with PHP3,043,273, and fisheries with PHP32,960,000.

Egargue said the town of Dingalan recorded the highest loss in crops and fisheries amounting to PHP62,601,750; followed by Dipaculao, PHP41,438,718; San Luis, PHP10,430,098; Maria Aurora, PHP8,097,209; Baler, PHP4,063,919; Casiguran, PHP2,876,238; and Dilasag, PHP776,842.

“We are still waiting for additional report from the eight municipalities. So far, Dinalungan town is still in the process of monitoring and assessment if there are damages in agriculture,” he said.

Meanwhile, Egargue said Dingalan town reported an estimated PHP52,255,000 damage to infrastructure.

The number of totally destroyed houses was placed at 589 while there are 6,734 that are partially damaged.

Egargue also said communication lines in Dingalan are still unstable, while the water supply was restored on Monday.

He said all municipalities of Aurora except Dingalan are set to be energized soon upon restoration of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines' transmission lines. (PNA)
