8 confirmed deaths due to 'Karding' so far: NDRRMC

MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday confirmed the deaths of eight persons in three provinces that suffered the brunt of Typhoon "Karding" (international name Noru) over the weekend.

In its latest update, the agency said the deaths include six from Bulacan, one from Zambales and one from Quezon.

Still undergoing verification are reports of one death in Zambales, one each in Antipolo and Tanay, both in Rizal.

Under validation are reports of one missing person in Antipolo and five in Mercedes, Camarines Norte.

Karding has also affected 176,337 families residing in 1,372 barangays located in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Region 5, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

About 6,435 families or 25,177 individuals are still taking shelter in 391 evacuation centers while the rest have returned home.

Several houses were damaged in Regions 1, 2, 3 and the CAR.

Damage to agriculture was pegged at PHP152 million in Regions 1, 4-A (Calabarzon), 5, and the CAR.

Infrastructure damage was estimated at PHP23 million in Regions 1, 4-B (Mimaropa), 5 and CAR. (PNA)
