MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday administered the oath of office to retired Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Salamat as the executive director of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
Marcos shared several photos of the mass oath-taking ceremony held at the President's Hall in Malacañan Palace in Manila.
It was in July this year when Marcos appointed Salamat as the executive director of the NTF-ELCAC National Secretariat.
The NTF-ELCAC, established by virtue of Executive Order 70 signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018, is mandated to pursue a "whole-of-nation" approach to counter communist insurgency and attain "inclusive and sustainable peace.”
Before his new stint, Salamat served as a board member at the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System under the Duterte administration.
Salamat, before his retirement from the military service, led the Tarlac-based Northern Luzon Command.
Apart from Salamat, recently-proclaimed Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo also took an oath before Marcos.
Degamo, a reelectionist governor, was proclaimed as the duly-elected governor of Negros Oriental province after the votes of the previously proclaimed winner, Pryde Henry Teves, were transferred and counted in his favor.
After the final recount, the number of votes cast for Degamo rose to 331,726 votes from the previous 281,773. Teves, on the other hand, obtained 301,319 votes.
Marcos also led the oath-taking of the new set of officers of Malacañang Cameramen Association (MCA) and Presidential Photojournalists Association (PPA).
In a Facebook post, Marcos expressed optimism that Salamat, Degamo, and the officers of the MCA and PPA will perform their duties “with excellence and integrity.”
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa kanilang dedikasyon at umaasang buong husay at katapatan nilang gagampanan ang kanilang tungkulin para sa bayan (I am thanking them for their dedication, and I am expecting that they will fulfill their mandate and serve the country with excellence and integrity),” he said.
