MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos is scheduled to grace the National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Summit 2022 at the Manila Hotel on Wednesday.

His attendance at this year's national ICT summit was in line with his administration's bid to pursue digitalization and technological innovations, Office of the Press Secretary officer-in-charge Undersecretary Cheloy Garafil said in a press statement.

"The Marcos Administration has been pursuing digitalization and technological innovations to enhance the delivery of public services and create various employment and investment opportunities," Garafil said.

"The President has also repeatedly stressed the need to adopt digital technologies to bolster the Philippines' post-pandemic recovery," she added.

Garafil said Marcos will be accompanied by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy.

Marcos, Garafil added, is also expected to lead the awarding ceremonies for the summit participants.

This year's ICT summit carries the theme, "Toward a Citizen-Centric, Inclusive and Sustainable eGovernance Ecosystem #BuildBetterMore".

The event will be attended by the officials and personnel of the DICT, officials and members of the Chief Information Officers Forum (CIOF) Foundation, representatives from the academe and the private sector, and national and local government officials.

Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Lilia Guillermo, Department of Budget and Management Assistant Secretary and CIOF Inc. president Clarito Alejandro Magsino, CIOF Foundation Inc. president Cynthia Topacio, and CIOF Foundation Inc. chairperson George Kintanar are also expected to attend the summit.

In his first State of the Nation Address delivered on July 25, Marcos asked Congress to pass the proposed E-Governance Act which promotes the use of internet, intranet and other ICT to provide opportunities for citizens.

The government's bid to digitalize the services of state departments and offices aims to make the bureaucracy efficient and the Philippine economy prosperous. (PNA)
