MANILA – Tropical Storm Paeng will bring rains and gusty winds over Samar provinces, while Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is still hoisted over some areas in Luzon and the Visayas.

Samar provinces may experience flooding or landslides due to moderate to heavy with at times intense rains. Minimal to minor threat to lives and properties due to strong winds are also likely, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Paeng and the shear line will also cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the rest of the Visayas, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula.

Flash floods or landslides are likely in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Paeng maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

In a bulletin sent at 5:18 p.m., PAGASA said Paeng was last located 510 km. east of Borongan, Eastern Samar.

TCWS No. 1 has been hoisted over the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Siruma, Tinambac, Goa, Lagonoy, Garchitorena, Caramoan, Presentacion, Saglay, San Jose, Tigaon, Ocampo, Iriga City, Buhi, Nabua, Bato, Balatan, Bula, Baao, Pili, Calabanga, Bombon, Magarao, Naga City, Milaor, Minalabac, San Fernando, Gainza, Camaligan, Canaman), Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate including Ticao Island and Burias Island.

Also under TCWS No. 1 are Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and the northern portion of Leyte (San Isidro, Calubian, Tabango, Leyte, Capoocan, Carigara, Barugo, San Miguel, Babatngon, Tacloban City, Alangalang, Santa Fe, Palo).

Strong winds will prevail in these areas.

In the next 24 hours, the surge of the northeast monsoon will also bring strong winds with gusts reaching gale-force strength over Bicol Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.

PAGASA said there is minimal to moderate risk of storm surge which may cause flooding in the low-lying coastal areas of Catanduanes and some coastal areas of Camarines Sur.

Meanwhile, rough to very rough seas continued to prevail over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and the Visayas.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves, PAGASA said. (PNA)
