PGJC-Navy to face North Cotabato in PNVF Champions League semis

MANILA – PGJC-Navy on Friday defeated Santa Rosa, 25-13, 25-16, 25-21, to book the first semifinal ticket in the men's division of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Christian Marcelino scored 14 points, while Greg Dolor and Joeven dela Vega chipped in 13 points apiece, as the Sea Lions rolled to their fifth straight win in Pool A.

"It's all about teamwork and communication. Confidence can play a big role really for a team. I'm very thankful for my teammates because they do their roles as well as our coaches," said Marcelino after the match.

Also advancing to the semifinal was North Cotabato after beating Army Taguig City, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21, in the other quarterfinal match.

John Vic de Guzman and Jao Umandal led the G-Spikers with 14 points each, while Kim Malabunga contributed 13 points.

The PGJC-Navy Sea Lions and the North Cotabato G-Spikers will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

When asked to comment on their match against the Sea Lions, G-Spikers coach Odjie Mamon replied," We will give them a good fight. We have reached this far by the hard work of these players."

The last two slots in the Final Four will be disputed by National University-Pasay City, the top-ranked team in Pool B, and Imus City; and Pool C's No. 1 Bacolod City and Cignal.

Meanwhile, Pool A No. 1 Quezon City and Pool B No. 2 University of the East-Manila will square off at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the women's semifinal.

The other match scheduled at 3 p.m. will pit Pool B No. 1 CPS-Antipolo City against Pool A No. 2 Imus City. (PNA)
