Sorsogon gives P2.1-M aid to ASF-hit hog raisers

LEGAZPI CITY – The provincial government of Sorsogon has released close to PHP2.1 million as financial assistance to hog raisers affected by the African swine fever (ASF) infestation.

In a report Thursday, Salvador Mendoza, Sorsogon information officer, said 33 local hog raisers have been affected in the town of Irosin and were given the cash aid on Wednesday.

"The hog raisers from two affected barangays received PHP5,000 cash assistance per head of culled hogs," Mendoza said.

He noted that the total number of ASF-related hog deaths has reached 423 in the villages of Bolos and Bulawan.

Meanwhile, Sorsogon Governor Jose Edwin B. Hamor, in a statement said the amount given to the affected hog raisers will help them to recover from the effects of the ASF infestation. (PNA)
