In a phone interview on Wednesday, DOH-CHD-1 medical officer Dr. Rheuel Bobis said of the total number, seven were from Pangasinan, two from La Union and one from Ilocos Sur.

Most of the victims, according to Bobis, are children aged 6-10.

Seven of the incidents were caused by "boga" and three were due to "kwitis".

“Most of the victims, seven of them, incurred blast or burn injuries while the rest had an eye injury,” Bobis said.

In a separate interview, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office director Col. Jeff Fanged said he has already instructed the chiefs of police of the 44 towns and cities of the province to intensify their operations against prohibited firecrackers.

Fanged said he asked his men to conduct operations “ala buy-bust” where they will set up an entrapment to catch those who are selling.

He also urged the public to cooperate with the government and not patronize prohibited firecrackers. (PNA)
