ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Police Regional Office in Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) recorded nine firecracker-related injuries during the New Year revelry throughout the region.

Brig. Gen. Neil Alinsañgan, PRO-9 director, said Tuesday the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay have the highest cases of firecracker-related injuries with three each.

Alinsañgan said that Zamboanga City recorded two cases and Zamboanga del Norte with one case.

“There was no recorded incident in Isabela City,” Alinsañgan said, noting that the number of cases of firecracker-related injuries during the New Year’s revelry were the same with that of the previous year.

No incident of stray bullet incident this year, unlike in the previous year there was one registered incident.

“This is a result of the continuous intensification of the implementation of Enhanced Managing Police Operation, especially on loose firearms and Oplan (Operations Plan) Katok, which were among the strategies conducted to have a safe and peaceful yuletide season,” Alinsañgan said.

Meanwhile, Col. Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office director, said they seized assorted firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in line with the strict enforcement of Ordinance 569 or the Firecracker Law during the holidays leading to the New Year’s Eve revelry.

Unauthorized modified mufflers of motorcycles in the city were also confiscated, he added.

“All the confiscated firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices and mufflers will be destroyed in full public view next week,” Lorenzo said. (PNA)
