BACOLOD CITY – Hundreds of families in three localities, including this capital city, were evacuated while sea travels were suspended as heavy rains continued due to a low-pressure area on Thursday.
Data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office here showed 58 families, comprised of 179 individuals, have been affected by floods. Some evacuated to a daycare center following incessant rains since Wednesday.
Affected residents were those from Barangays Pahanocoy, Sum-ag and Mansilingan, who were given food assistance through their respective barangay councils.
In Cadiz City, at least 207 families or 674 persons sought shelter in four evacuation centers on Wednesday night, a report from the city government showed.
Six barangays have been affected by the flooding following continuous rains, including Luna, Daga, Tinampaan, Cabahug, Sicaba and Burgos.
In neighboring Sagay City, a total of 121 individuals were evacuated, mainly from Barangay Poblacion 2, where several residents were rescued after a portion of the village was flooded on Wednesday.
This city also canceled Thursday's classes in both elementary and high school levels, as well as in the neighboring cities of Bago, Talisay, Silay, Victorias, San Carlos and several other localities in the province.
In a report of the Philippine Coast Guard, trips of fast crafts and roll-on, roll-off vessels from San Carlos City bound for Toledo City in Cebu were canceled on Thursday morning due to rough sea conditions.
At least 24 passengers and 12 rolling cargoes were stranded at the city's port area. (PNA)
