MANILA – The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on Tuesday reported that it has released PHP33.9 million in medical assistance to a total of 4,949 eligible beneficiaries nationwide from Jan. 16 to 20.

Citing its latest data, the state lottery agency said the funds were released to beneficiaries through its Medical Access Program (MAP).

The beneficiaries include 654 indigents from the National Capital Region who received PHP7.7 million worth of assistance; 965 from Northern and Central Luzon who were given PHP7.6 million; and 1,271 from the Southern Tagalog and Bicol Region who received PHP6.2 million.

In the Visayas, 984 individuals were provided with PHP6.1 million in medical aid while 1,075 individuals received PHP5.7 million in Mindanao.

The MAP, formerly known as the Individual Medical Assistance Program, is designed to augment medical assistance for indigent Filipinos, particularly for hospital confinement, chemotherapy, dialysis and post-transplant medicines.

The program is funded by revenues from PCSO games nationwide. (PNA)
